perhaps you might recall a couple of months ago that tripp and i (and by that i mean tripp) moved the bird bath. i promise i won’t be offended if you actually have a life and don’t remember. because i know – there’s alot of riveting stuff here on the blog to keep up with.
anyway, long story short…we moved the bird bath out from under the tree in the middle of the backyard to out by the fence closer to the bird feeders in hopes that it would keep the bird ‘mess’ away from the patio area….if you get my drift. and it was at that point that my beloved informed me that it was the last effing time that he was moving the heavy effing birdbath.
sidenote: in his defense, the bird bath is very heavy. and he’s moved it…alot.
well so apparently the birds prefer the shade of the big tree in the middle of the backyard because everyday around 4:30 they get together for a big pool party. which in this case is not the concrete bird bath…but rather dogs’ water bowl.
in their defense, it’s been really hot and humid.
and you can tell it’s hot because of the way they hold their beaks open like this.
sorta like how a dog pants to keep cool. which my dogs would do if they were outside rather than comfortably lying on my couch.
anyway, we’re coming into the hottest months of the year and if you’re so inclined, you might think about giving the critters a place to cool off.
that is except rats. {{shudder}}
a heavy cement bird bath is (obviously) not required.

Now I understand why the birds don’t visit my birdbath even in this heat!! They want a dog bowl!! Hmmm…don’t have a dog, wonder if a tin pie plate will do!! 🙂 They’re all great captures, but I love the one where the water is splashing out of the bowl!!
Love these images! The heck with my old cement birdbath, it doesn’t get much action…I’m heading out to buy a dog bowl!
