Even without the calendar’s confirmation, I know that summer is here.
I know that it’s summer because of the choir of locusts that sing at dusk.
I know that it’s summer because of the way the fireflies twinkle in my backyard.
I know that it’s summer because of the birds that flock to the Junebug buffet that happens after Tripp cleans out the pool skimmer basket.
I know that it’s summer because of the way the sun is setting in the northern part of the western sky and the way the light falls in my backyard.
I know that it’s summer because of my frizzy hair and our fogged up windows in the mornings.
I know that it’s summer because of the daisies, daylilies, and zinnias in my garden.
I know that it’s summer because of the smell of pool towels fresh from the dryer.
I know that it’s summer because of the flip-flop tan on Tripp’s feet.
I know that it’s summer. And today I am feeling grateful for all of its gifts and blessings.
Love, Kelly
