I first met my future son-in-law in the spring of 2017. Kelsey and Alex had been dating for a couple of months and she asked if Tripp and I would like to meet them for dinner at Mi Cocina. Sitting down together over Mambo Taxi’s and bowl of queso, we got to know each a little better. And instead of feeling awkward or uncomfortable, it was like we had known him for years. At the end of dinner, I remember thinking, “Wow, this guy is pretty special.”
Then a couple years later in 2019, Tripp and I took a road trip to Montana to meet more of his family and see where he grew up. It was really special to spend time with Alex in his hometown and to see him in his element. It was fun to listen to his stories about growing up (quite literally) with Yellowstone National Park as his backyard playground.
That trip confirmed everything I had come to know about Alex – that he is kind and thoughtful. Intelligent and hardworking. He is a devoted son. A loyal brother and friend. A man of his word. Exactly the kind of husband and partner that I had prayed my girl would meet.

Over the past four years, Alex has completely endeared himself to me. I love his easy-going nature. I love his smile. I love how he is always up for an adventure and yet equally content to sit on the back porch and hang our with our family. I love how much he loves my girl.
Also, I know Tripp feels the same way about Alex because he has not tried one time to run him off (literally) by taking him to jog. But that’s probably another story for another day.
It’s safe to say that Alex already feels like family, so I cannot wait to make it official in a few more days.
