my dad has been playing the guitar for as long as i remember.
i can vividly remember being maybe only three or four years old and my dad playing folsom prison blues. that first guitar lick. i always associate it with my dad.
my dad never had any formal guitar training. his dad taught him to play one song as a young boy and my dad took it from there. practicing along to his favorite artists. learning from the masters.
when i got older, my dad played guitar at mass. i swear half of the scripture i know is from our church’s old glory & praise song books. in so many ways, my dad’s guitar was the background music to my life.
my dad and i talked alot about music on our recent trip to missouri. and if you think about it, it’s not a long stretch from music to photography. both being a desire to express something in your heart. both a lifelong journey – learning and growing as an artist.
i love that my dad is a self-taught musician. i love that he has never stopped playing. i love that his pursuit of his art gave me permission to pursue mine.
happy birthday daddy! thank you for the music.
Happy birthday Dad!!! 🙂
Happy Birthday to your Dad, Kelly. My Dad played the clarinet. He didn’t play if often but when he did, I was always enthralled!!
What fun for you! A guitar playing daddy! Happy birthday to him, too. And I absolutely LOVE that photo of the two of you together. xo
Great post! Tell you dad happy birthday! Beautiful picture of you two!
